Right to roam

We learned in the course of our recent street party that small children can get a great bang from being allowed to do stuff in the road that is normally strictly forbidden. So in the snap above, chalk drawings.

Between which and charging up and down on various forms of scooter, powered or otherwise, there was some tension. Just as there is with the grown ups.

The car visible lower right is a large toy rather than a real car, a toy which, sadly, I failed to see in action.

But at least, with the presently fine weather, not to say rather hot, the chalk drawings are still holding up pretty well. And unlike the graffiti of their elders, the forecast rain will wash the chalk away soon enough. The drawings will not outstay their welcome.

I did erect the bunting, all five or six strings of it, noticed at reference 1, and it did rather well in the light breeze, but my other contribution to the fun did not, in the event, see the light of day as I chickened out of wearing it to the after-children barbecue. It did, however, involve lots of craft and several of FIL's carefully saved shoelaces, so playing to my interest in rigging, ropes and knots - and will, no doubt serve in due course.

No glue involved at all, and just the odd inch of Sellotape to deal with a couple of unwanted cuts. Untidy, not structural.
