Having recorded the third and probably last tubs of blackberries at reference 1, this morning, in the course of a Ewell Village anti-clockwise, I came across a really good place for picking, on the bank to the right as one heads towards Ewell West, over the bridge at the railway station. A place I have picked at before, probably most recently as noticed at reference 2, just over two years ago.
However the ruling back at the castle was no more blackberries unless I either stopped cluttering up our modest freezer with my loaves of bread or bought another freezer. The blackberries were left.
By way of consolation prize, I did get a pre-owned washer and an as-new screw to add to my collections of same.
Then by way of a blunder, I got into a muddle with reference 9a of the previous post, reference 4 of the present post. I got it into my head that it was a book, the sort of book which BH might like to take a look at and which would probably be worth a fiver or so second hand. So I asked eBay. No go. Asked Abebooks. No go. Asked the Book Depositary. No go. Eventually, in desperation, I asked Amazon. No go there either - although there were plenty of books at all four places with this title - The Rebel Heiress - most of which appear to be sultry looking chicklit. Mills & Boon even.
Eventually it dawned on me that what we had was an article in the NYT, not a book at all. It seems that once book had got lodged in the brain, it was going to take something big to dislodge it. A blunder; the sort of thing that has plagued me since my school days. One of the sprogs once told me that playing chess against a computer was quite good mitigation: the computer does not forgive blunders and you gradually learn to be careful - but unfortunately I never took the medicine.
