Rain

It has been a wet day, with quite a lot of rain and a very modest amount of thunder and lightning. Enough rain over the past day or so for the three micro-ponds to have become a pondemonium (or pondamonium), something which has not happened for some time. With the last notice being just about a year ago, at reference 1, give or take vagaries of spelling. Was there nothing earlier in the year?

Enough rain that the shiny new hieroglyphics on the pavement by our water meter have nearly been washed out. BH says that they appear from time to time, perhaps three or four times over the years, and sometimes they result in our water meter or its surrounds being dug up. To think that last time the men from Thames Water assured us that they were putting in the latest thing in water meters and that it would never need to be looked at again. At least not in our time.

Previous action logged at reference 3 and reference 4.

The day also saw Bread Batch No.703. Despite the dough being kept warm, another very long day, with total proving time being just about eight hours. At least on this occasion, I allowed the second rise about the right amount of time. The resultant loaves were dark, even and not terribly big: but I think one of them will taste OK in the morning, it being too late to taste today. Maybe the proving time is a function of tired yeast. Time to order up some more in any event.
