Today saw the new lino put down on the floor of our newly refitted kitchen, just about five weeks and three days since we first made contact with the builder who did the work for us. Hopefully all done.
The garage is more or less back to rights, with its store of second hand timber which might come in one day significantly enlarged by a decent whack of second hand chipboard, faced on one or two sides. Chipboard which was installed thirty years ago under the supervision of John Lewis of Sloane Square, then Peter Jones. As I recall, we were more or less at extreme range.
The front room however, is still home to a large fraction of what had been the contents of the kitchen. That is going to take a few more days to sort out.
But I am happy to report that one of our two trestle tables has done good service, as can been seen in the snap above. Noting that it seemed prudent to deploy three trestles rather than the usual two, the top only having been built for light loads.
FIL's all-important reclining chair still in use and visible left. Fake coal fire (gas fired), off snap to the left of that.
PS: John Lewis did a pretty good job, only marred by some sloppy pipe-fitting by a subbie which resulted in a minor flood. One of our rugs in a nearby room took some serious damage, damage for which we were quite decently compensated. And taking said pipes apart the other day, I found a lot of that white tape and white gunk that plumbers use for bad compression joints. Perhaps it was the day of the apprentice.
