Came out of M&S having dropped on trolley 672 to find this trolley from Waitrose, which it seemed a pity to ignore. So returned to Waitrose, down past Wetherspoon's in the Ashley Centre.
At the time I puzzled about the graphic instructions on the lock, only now working out from the enlarged snap above that it is all about the difference between old-style pound coins which were circularly smooth and the slightly bigger new-style pound coins which have facets. At least I have the excuse that I had my outdoor glasses on. A change which reference 2 tells me was made back in 2017, with the old ones becoming illegal tender not long after, which suggests that this handle lock is a few years old. In any case, I failed to recover any pound coin, circular or otherwise.
On round the Ewell Village anti-clockwise, to find that the greater celandine (Chelidonium majus) of reference 3 was in flower.
Google Images sticks with its diagnosis, only confused by one of the flowers in one of its snaps appearing to have five petals rather than four everywhere else. And I had thought that plants were fairly reliable in this matter.
Bentham & Hooker says nothing about the number of petals, Wikipedia says four at reference 4. Maybe Bentham & Hooker thought it best to keep quiet.
Then somewhere further along East Street this purple flower, for which Google Images suggests common wood sorrel (Oxalis articulata) from reference 5 which seems fair enough, although I would like to take another look. Same story at reference 6. Foreign.
And lastly, more or less opposite the entrance to Bourne Hall a much bigger and better greater celandine. No cases of five petals here.
