Trolley 676

Trolley 676 was captured quite late on Saturday afternoon. A now rare Waitrose trolley on Station Approach. By the entrance to the small car park which used to serve the customers of Sainsbury's below, but which now looks as if it is for general use - T K Maxx not being into providing car parking for its customers.

On the way out of the Ashley Centre, I passed the van which sells paella, where the chap was just shovelling what he had left, from his two iron basins, into boxes or something - I could not quite see what. Having often wondered what happens to the considerable amount of perfectly decent food which these people are apt to have left over, I asked Gemini about it.

His answer was that while, if you were careful about it, if you cooled the paella down quickly and stored it at a suitably low temperature overnight, you could reheat it for sale the next day. But you might fall foul of local hygiene regulations and the taste and texture of the paella would be rather the worse for wear second time around - as indeed we find at home with soups. Some stand better than others, but generally speaking, not as good second time around.

Gemini then made various other suggestions about what you might do with the leftovers, but apart from giving the stuff to canteens for the indigent, none of them struck me as much use when you had a lot of the stuff. Similar consideration apply to doner kebabs where there is apt to be a lot of leftover warm, half cooked meat. A dish we took fairly often when we lived in the Wood Green area, then, and probably still, home to many Cypriots.

So here, while I have not checked any of what Gemini has said, it all seems very plausible. And I suspect that, armed with the jargon and issues he has provided, checking would not be difficult if I cared.

PS: we used to own one of these (wrought) iron basins, almost certainly acquired from a car boot sale, which I think was occasionally used as a container for a small fires. Retired quite a while ago now in one of our regular culls.
