Fake 156

A renovated window head, probably in Pump Court, Middle Temple, possibly down to damage during the second world war. The faking in question being some of the joins, which I think have been scratched out of the whole brick.

At least, so it seemed when I passed earlier today. Not so clear at all from the zoom above.

But still not clear what is going on here. Why have the sloping cuts, fake or otherwise, at all, spoiling the pattern of the thing? Were they once filled with red brick dust and glue and then more or less invisible? Or at least unnoticed by the passing lawyers.

PS: there was quite a lot of bomb damage to the temple buildings during the second world war. Some of it was put to rights by the Maufe with whom I engaged last year. See, for example, reference 2.
