Quite a respectable tower this morning, hitting the ceiling with a respectable number of bricks to go. Could probably have made another foot or so without too much trouble. And the thin cork mats did a good job of anchoring the fragile tip to the ceiling; much better than oven cloths, newspapers or bean bags.
Another outing for the ladder, the crash helmet and the large level. This last old enough to be made of brown wood. Maybe three crashes on the way to fixing the tip to the ceiling. Later dismantled in favour of a Barbie House, which I thought rather good, but which did not attract much attention.
PS 1: there are compensations for all this heat, with this being a ripe fig, picked today from the Chase Estate. It went down very well as part of dessert at today's luncheon.
PS 2: luncheon is an interesting word, with both it and lunch rating half a column in the OED. While it is not clear which came first, it seems that both started off meaning a hunk of bread and cheese. Moving on to mean a meal taken in the middle of the day, rather lighter than breakfast before and dinner after, this last possibly early afternoon rather than early evening. Luncheon now usually reserved for more formal, more ceremonious contexts.

Reference 1: https://psmv5.blogspot.com/2021/12/towers-of-duplo.html. The last such tower. Possibly the only such - although years ago we did occasionally - at least once - pull off the same sort of stunt, but using little Lego rather than big Lego, aka Duplo. We probably cheated to the extent of using Technic beams to get the height - effective, if a little tricky in this context.
