Piano 61

The second piano scored at Osborne House, that is to say Queen Victoria's summer house on the Isle of Wight, the first, rather different, being found at reference 2.

An ornate affair, but as Osborne was in full crocodile form, with no walking around the art, never mind touching it, I was not able to take a look at the maker's name.

I had at first thought that Victoria and Albert had had pictures of themselves built into the ornament, testimony to their fondness for having their own portraits all over the place, seemingly just as narcissistic as any 21st century celebrity, not to say any fat leader, but closer examinations proves the thought false. Maybe copies taken from old masters?

PS: associating on narcissistic, long habits of command over all the small people around one must be just as corrupting as holding political power over a whole people for a long time. Made worse in this case by their being no possibility of removal by the electorate. From where I associate to Bertie, later Edward VII, Lillie Langtry's friend and protector, whom I read of as having been ridiculously dictatorial in his social affairs, made worse in his case by his mother, Queen Victoria, not giving him anything sensible to do.
