This morning an invitation from the ATG theatre group to see 'The seagull' at the Harold Pinter theatre, near Charing Cross, a place last visited four years ago and noticed at reference 1.
A very glowing invitation, involving stars from important shows like 'Game of Thrones', so we thought we would give it a go. On investigation, I find that decent Saturday afternoon seats might cost us around £250. Adding in the cost of trains, refreshments and sundries, the total cost would be heading towards double that. We decided against.
I then remembered that we probably had a credit note from ATG for shows cancelled during the plague. And so it turned out to be, and I lift a voucher code and a redemption code from an email. No idea how much the voucher was for, but it must be in the same region as the amount wanted now. Might be a bit rich, but we might as well spend the voucher.
But it was not to be. Go through the booking palaver to be told that combination of voucher code and redemption code that I was offering were invalid. Perhaps they have expired.
Momentarily tempted to proceed anyway, then decided against. There is also the consideration that a theatre is a much more plaguey place than the Wigmore Hall. At least that is our theory.
We shall see if I can be bothered to phone them up later and find out what is going on.
PS 1: I then remembered about the business of seagull in Russian be better translated as marsh gull, as most Russians have lots of marshes but very little seaside. But reference 2 tells me that memory has slipped again, with the translation being lake gull, not marsh gull.
PS 2: after breakfast I thought I would try ringing them up. Good for another bout of the call centre queuing experience. Then quite by chance, while asking gmail for the number, I came across another old email giving me different codes. And these ones worked. So two quite respectable seats for the sum of £6.35 or so.
