Gathered up on return from an expedition to the big town. Seemed a pity to leave it, given that it was a now rare trolley from Waitrose.
I did, however, pass up on various other offerings on my way back.
While today, no trolleys, but I did spot this curious bit of BMW trim on Meadway, by the corner house nearing the end of major refurbishment. Perhaps one of the builders, perhaps some quaint central European custom?
And on West Hill, the drain cover repair (take two) continues to hold up well. But it was suggested to me that it was only a matter of time before it starts breaking up again. Too many heavy lorries on West Hill. Exacerbated by the operation at reference 3 getting bigger, sucking in more skip lorries from the west. Traffic which was also blamed for the burst water main last week at the bottom of West Hill, by Station Approach. As noticed at reference 1.
Regarding the snap above, I'm no expert in deciphering aerial photographs, but it looks to me more like a waste transfer operation, complete with a masonry mincing machine, rather than a tip proper. A skip & commercial version of our tip on Blenheim Road.
Then back home, a call from Thames Water who wanted to book another visit. No, I don't know what they want to do, my job is just to book the visit. The suggestion was a whole day plus more time to complete reinstatement, but by the time the confirming text message turned up, this has been relaxed to half a day 'to have your water meter fitted or upgraded'. Which I don't think is what they have in mind at all. We shall see.
PS 1: Thursday morning: BH has just drawn my attention to an important instruction printed on the label of the bunch of daffodils which she bought from Sainsbury's yesterday: 'Do not eat', complete with a little knife & fork graphic to make the instruction even clearer. I wonder what prompted them to do this? According to reference 4, 'all parts of the daffodil are toxic. When swallowed, [they] can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Eating the bulb can cause severe irritation of the mouth and stomach upset. These symptoms are usually not life threatening and resolve within a few hours' - but then, lots of things are not very good to eat, but we don't find it necessary to put warning labels on them.
PS 2: later that same day: after various shenanigans prompted by a mysterious call from Thames Water when I was on the road (as it were), I got through to an operator who knew her business and who did have access to my notes. What they wanted were various consents to do with the work that is likely to be necessary when they next visit. So a pain that so much work is necessary, but at least I now know a bit more about what is going on. And I shall be sure to be in when they do pay us their next visit.
