We are told there is an eclipse of the moon this Friday morning, between around 04:00 and 06:20. I happened to be awake at the start of this interval, so an opportunity to play with my handy Celestron Outland monocular. A pocket sized affair, rather than something grander - and much less convenient - on a stand.
04:00: full moon clearly visible from back study window.
04:30: full moon still clearly visible but it seems to have acquired a large, red fringed halo. Was it an artefact of the double glazing? Of ropey eyes?
05:00: no change yet, apart from the moon being a bit lower in the sky.
08:15: reports of a sharp frost at 07:00, now largely gone. Eclipse completely missed!
