A dog problem

I was interested to read at reference 1 this morning of a problem with dogs in Turkey. One problem that we do not have.

It seems that Turkey has long been overrun with feral cats and dogs and the government is finally cranking up to do something about the dog part of it. The last occasion, it seems, being 1910 when they simply dumped 80,000 dogs to die on an island in the Sea of Marmara. One catch being that you could hear them dying back in what was then Constantinople.

On this occasion, the dog lovers (some of whom are snapped above) are out in force. And rather like here, while most people want something done about it, very few people want the dogs killed. Speaking for myself, while I am more relaxed about dogs than I was, I would hate to have all kinds of dogs running wild about the streets of Epsom. If I was younger, I might even be moved to join a vigilante squad which went around at night rounding them up and disposing of them. In some orgo-ecological way, naturally.

PS: the photographer is probably the chap at reference 2. A bit more black-and-white, a bit more dark and restrained than one would expect from someone from, say, California.
