Today, prompted by battery problems, I have taken the plunge and bought a Samsung phone - a Galaxy A54 5G - to replace my Microsoft phone. The thinking being that I had better take the pain of getting out of Microsoft before it is too late.
So far, I have made some calls and taken some pictures. I have received a few texts. But I have completely failed to move my contacts or my calendar off the old phone and I have more or less failed to move my new pictures onto OneDrive. Although there was some hope in this second failure: I was able to get into OneDrive and I did manage to upload four of the pictures, where I could see them from my desktop. The catch was that the four new files appear to have overwritten four old files in an unsuitable folder - not having given me any choice about this last. Furthermore, the new files appear from their properties to have zero content and don't open in the Photos application. So useless.
Plenty of help was turned up by Bing on the Internet about all this, but most of it is several years or more old and most of it seems to reference Windows features and files which are no longer current. So not exactly useless, I am learning, but not yet with results.
I have created a new gmail account to talk to the new phone, preferring to keep my phone doings separate from my mail doings. At least for the moment.
I was pleased to find that Snakehive still exist and that they can do a suitable wallet. Its predecessor served well. Just about twice what the O2 shop charged me for the plug needed to make the charging cable work. It's all adding up!
And that has more or less taken up my day. Maybe tomorrow I am going to have to work a bit harder on the 160 pages of user manual.
