Trolley 474

The trolley by Screwfix had moved this morning from its position yesterday afternoon,  moved up behind a tree rather nearer the underpass. Removed the dead leaves and twigs from the basket and returned the trolley to the main stand outside the main entrance of the Kiln Lane Sainsbury's. Exited via Kiln Lane to East Street and carried on around the Ewell Village anti-clockwise.

Thought on this occasion to actually visit the nearly-new café-delicatessen noticed at reference 2. The place where the country clothes plus fancy hats had a run of a few years; guessing, less than five. The visible staff consisted of a very pleasant lady of middle years and the idea seemed more café than delicatessen, with their hoping to sell lunches as well as coffees. One pensioner couple came in for coffee while I was there. That is to say a late mid-week morning.

In among the cheesy offerings, they did have some cooked and cured meats, nearly all Spanish, mostly chorizo, which I am not that keen on, and nothing in the way of French saucisson sec or Italian salami.  I settled on a lump of cured pork from Spain, which I think BH liked more than I did when it got home. Closer inspection revealed it to be Monroy cured pork loin, imported by the Brindisa people of Borough Market. People with whom I have had occasional dealings in the past, although the blog archive yielded just four hits, of which one was a misspelling. And apart from finding a place in southern Spain called Monroy, , another place in central Spain called Monroyo and a brand of Serrano ham named for this last, I have drawn a blank with Monroy meat. Doesn't seem to exist online.

There was also a modest range of mid-range wine. Certainly quite enough to complement whatever lunch might be on offer.

I wonder when I - or we - will next visit?

PS 1: it took about 5 minutes for a Brindisa advertisement to appear in my email box!

PS 2: that evening: about two centimetres of pork did very well chopped in soup. Soup based on Knorr chicken noodle, but supplemented by quite of lot of left over vegetables. Including quite a lot of what had been mashed potato and a pack of mushrooms a touch past their sell-by date. I learn that what was sold as cured pork had been painted with something very similar to the red goo to be found oozing out cooking chorizo. But not enough of it to taste in soup.
