Trolley 852

When I went back for the trolley noticed at the end of reference 1, I was a little surprised that it was still there. Although someone had thought to move it from the narrow passage under the railway to the bottom of Stones Road. Taking my customary snap of the whitebeam on the way.

Returned to the front of the store at Kiln Lane.

Noticing there that, while Sainsbury's had spent a lot on refreshing the boundary trees and shrubs, they did not seem to be spending so much on maintenance. Probably a bit late to be standing this sample shrub back up again.

That said, I think it is Pyracantha. which is tough and vigorous stuff, with a fair chance of filling the hole in due course.

I learn from reference 2 that it is Pyracantha rather then Pyracanthus, that it is a relative of the Cotoneaster which BH is fond of and that one can make jelly out of the fruit. Something I might try in the autumn. It grows over our front wall and bees are very attracted to the rath insignificant flowers.

Initially, this afternoon, confused with Ceanothus which is rather different. Put right by Bing on the clue 'shrub with power blue flowers'. Power being a slip for powder - a slip which did not seem to bother Bing.
