Fake 190

This fake being some railings at the car park at Langley Park, just noticed at reference 2.

Intended to look like the substantial iron railings favoured by rich Victorians for their parks and home farms, from a time when substantial iron was a lot cheaper, in relative terms, than it is now - never mind the planet. These one are, I think, mainly tubular steel with a black plastic coating.

A sample of the real thing is to be found at reference 3. With more at reference 4.

PS 1: I might add that the trophy of reference 4, now known as the digging sticks, have done good service in digging for creepy-crawlies in the brick compost heap at the bottom of our garden. A phase young people go through.

PS 2: making America healthy again (MAHA) has been in the news, with Microsoft - possibly Copilot - offering: 'The White House May 22 released its Make America Healthy Again report that focuses on childhood chronic disease. The report highlights findings from the MAHA Commission related to poor diet, exposure to environmental chemicals, lack of physical activity, stress and overmedicalization'. After a while I tracked the report down to reference 5. A report which carries the Trump branding and which is a little loud by UK standard in such matters, but which makes interesting reading nonetheless. For example, it clearly identifies the poor return that the US gets for its huge spend on health, without making the link to the absence of a universal health care system, present in virtually every other western country. It also seems to be making a pitch for popular support - at the expense of the big corporate interests which so helped propel Trump to the presidency. We shall see how that pans out.

Largely the work of the Kennedy who has crossed the family party line, known for his eccentric views on health, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services.

PS 3: on the face of it, the poor quality graphic snapped from the MAHA report above, is extraordinary, telling us that three quarters of the young people of the US are unfit for the military. Google Images did not turn up a better version but Gemini told me that 'DQ' stands for disqualification. So we have a bunch of single cause disqualifications, plus a much larger number of multiple cause disqualifications. I have yet to look into JAMRS, beyond finding that it is part of the DoD operation at reference 6.

PS 4: a little later: searching reference 6 has failed to find the pie chart above, or anything like it. But I did turn up lots of server errors, links to pages and documents which did not work. Maybe Musk is axing them? All sounds a bit woke, after all.
