Wellingtonia 69

Wellingtonia 69 was captured in the margins of a visit to the Barge Walk, that is to say across the river from Kingston. BH in the driver's seat.

Just behind Portsmouth Road, between Uxbridge Road and Catherine Road. An area with an interesting mixture of property, but one which did not permit of actually touching the tree. The relevant rule was waived on this occasion. This snap taken from the Uxbridge Road side.

We took one of the interesting bits of property in Uxbridge Road to be a disused church. It looked like a church, perhaps Pentecostal or something of that sort, but there were no signs that I could find and Bing did not turn anything up. However, today, I take a look at gmaps to find that it is the Kingston, Surbiton & District Affiliated Synagogue. And now that I know, there is a clue in stained glass windows right.

As far as can be told from reference 2, the synagogue is up, running and good health. But perhaps they know from experience that it is better for there to be no signage outside. Which may well be so, but it is sad that it should be so.

Turned up by Bing.

Another image turned up by Bing: 'In the largest event held at Kingston Surbiton & District Synagogue for some time, we hosted over 150 members and guests for a wonderful Melava Malka on Motzei Shabbat 14 January [2017]'. Clearly the same place as that above, but with the shutters behind the choir drawn, perhaps because the Sabbath was over. For this and other information about 'Melava Malka', see reference 4.
