No.38

After a wait of half a year, a car sporting a No.38 registration plate turned up this morning, parked on Clay Hill Green.  The owner, once I explained that I was not taking his picture on account of his unorthodox parking, was quite interested in the whole business of collecting registration numbers. This one, he told me, came with the car, with 'T38' being a sort of tank and 'BJT' being Big John Thomas. I was so pleased with having finally scored again, that I failed to register whether or not that was him.

Bing's first offer for T38 was a jet trainer, around since 1960 or so, but passing through disabled sports bureaucracy we got to the second world war Soviet tank, which was what the owner of the plate knew about. A light tank, of which more than a thousand were produced in the 1930's, but not very successful in action. See references 2 and 3.

He also claims that a BJT is a bipolar junction transistor, something which rates its own Wikipedia entry.

Failed two of its 21 MOT tests. See reference 4.
