Festive fare

It has been some years since we last had a turkey at Christmas, fresh, frozen or crowned. One of the last, if not the last, might have been sourced from Pinegar's of Cheam, back in the days, more than ten year ago now, when I was cycling over to the baker there most days. And a good deal longer than that since I killed and plucked my own turkey down in Hambledon - just the once and, for the avoidance of doubt, I did not clean.

After that we moved onto chickens. And sometimes the primary celebration was not even on the proper day but on some day nearby.

This year we went one further and took vegetarian lasagne on Christmas Day, probably built on the meatless farm mince of reference 1. And green salad rather than Brussels sprouts, although the foot of the Brussels sprouts tree can be seen behind the bottle.

While for dessert, a mincemeat and apple tart served with custard and in place of the Christmas pudding. Some overlap of ingredients.

Alcohol in the form of Fleurie from Waitrose, illumination from our Canadian candelabra. With the wine being the stuff which took less than 24 hours from click to door, and this just before Christmas.

PS: we were reminded why candlesticks figure in murder mysteries. Lift the top off this one and you would have a very serious weapon, although you would perhaps want a glove for a firm grip.
