Before Christmas there was some doubt whether the 'Asparagus', a Wetherspoon's house in Battersea, at the northern end of Falcon Road, was still open. A correspondent asserted that it was shut, while I, having cycled past it from time to time, asserted that it was open.
But this morning Microsoft News brings me an item about Wetherspoon's selling off some of their houses, including this one. With the drill being that they are kept up and running during the sale process. My correspondent perhaps saw a glitch in the process.
All of which makes Wetherspoon's into a mature business. No longer just into headlong growth, but now starting to recycle loss making houses. Or at least, not enough profit making houses.
PS: another glitch in the process is the house at Raynes Park, shut for a while now, in south London but not mentioned by News Shopper. Another place that we used to use occasionally, mainly for their fish and chips. Perhaps the Wetherspoon's interest in that site has already been disposed of.
