Trolley 994 and 995

The first circuit of the day drew nothing other than this lorry in new-to-me livery, from the glazing people at reference 2.

Was the house concerned going in for heated glass windows for its swimming pool? Heated glass being something else which is new-to-me. I wonder whether you can see the heating elements, as you can, for example, in the rear windows of cars? Do they spoil the view?

The second circuit was slightly more productive, starting with this medium small trolley from M&S outside T K Maxx.

Picking up this non-scorer on the way over the market place.

On down East Street, to find an inactive hole in the road where Thames Water had done just enough to make substantial tailbacks on either side. This being late afternoon, but well before the knocking-off time of my younger years.

And a trolley from Sainsbury's a bit further down.

Picking up a non-scorer, contrary to my usual practise, just inside the Sainsbury's perimeter.

On down the alley to the side of the store and over the footbridge to check up on the candidate sumac growing up the side of what is now the Travis Perkins shed, across the way from the gas depot (complete with lorry mounted suction excavators).

Both stalks and petioles definitely hairy, visible above in their white margins.

I was impressed how zoom on my laptop was able to bring the hairs into view. A good deal better than the naked eye. Doing the job of an old style pocket microscope, the things that were about the size and shape of a fat fountain pen.

Pubescent in the jargon of botanists, with Bing/Copilot offering the information snapped above with very little prompting. However, not a straight lift from the reference to Wikipedia given and I suspect a little unbalanced.

Hortus Third is rather less loquacious, with the glossary there going no further than:

Strictly, this means covered with soft, short, fine hairs, as commonly used, however, the term means hairy, bearing hairs, in a generalized sense, without reference to the type of hair.

In any event, another marker which may be useful in the ongoing business of identification. The sort of thing that might appear in binary keys.
