Boiling ring not

The boiling ring captured at reference 1, despite being a ring, turns out not to have been a boiling ring at all, rather a ready cooked sausage called 'Smoked Farmer’s Sausage Wiejska' or, according to Bing 'Kiełbasa Wiejska, Polish Farmhouse Sausage'. Branded to Krakus, the people who used to supply Polish jam and pickles in distinctive jars when I was small.

Took about half of it today with sauerkraut and mashed potato. It said to peel, although that was not particularly easy, and it tasted more like gammon, the sort of thing mentioned at reference 2, than sausage, but rather good all the same. Plenty of meaty taste and not too strongly flavoured.

Investigating, Krakus (reference 3) is a brand operated by Animex (reference 4), who also do Berlinki and Morliny, with this last being a lot more visible to Bing than Krakus. Sold, for example, in Morrisons. And while one might think of Poland as a fairly conservative, traditional sort of place, they go as far as having three ladies at their top table, snapped above.

Curiously, this particular sausage does not appear at reference 3, or at least, I could not find it. Nor could Bing, with the best that he could offer being the image above, from reference 5. A Cracow (or Kraków) sausage but not a Krakus sausage.

Maybe once again, a made for export sausage, good enough for Brits who don't know any better.
