A few days ago I bought a red plastic wrapped coconut from Thailand from the greengrocer - more fruit than veg - in the market. This was noticed at the beginning of reference 1 and at the end of reference 2.
Then this (Sunday) morning, when I fired up my laptop, Microsoft Edge went through one of its bouts of self-advertisement, seemingly all about whizzy updates to its search capability, most of which did not look to interest me. But it did draw my attention to the search bar at the bottom of the screen, perhaps on what I used to call the task bar, and I did give it a modest go, so diverting my attention from what I had intended to be doing at that point.
But I can report that it did turn up reference 3 in no time at all and I now know a good deal more about how my coconut came to be, incidentally picking up on refrigerated containers, previously noticed at the end of reference 4. Which made me wonder whether Bing is using my search history to tune its search results - which may well be the case, even if this particular connection is a coincidence. And it may well be that Microsoft knows more about my search history, owning Windows, Edge and Bing (which last I use more often than Google search, even though the latter often works better for me) than Google.
I have also picked up the idea that maybe the milk in this coconut was nearer the sort of coconut milk you buy in cartons and perhaps use to add to curries than the sort of rather thinner milk you get in riper coconuts and which I have drunk occasionally - and better liked - in the past.
PS 1: I used to make more use of the Chrome browser, but I vaguely recall some awkward interaction with Windows, perhaps to do with anti-malware extensions, which pushed me back onto Edge.
PS 2: the images at reference 5, one of which is included above, suggest that growing coconuts in Thailand is a rather wet business. Presumably they have to have regard to water quality.
PS 3: I suppose the cause of the bad taste might also have been a break in the cold chain. Maybe the coconut had been out of its refrigerated container for too long? Notwithstanding the fact that it came from a hot country in the first place.
