Nothing doing on the morning circuit, but I did pick up 300g of pork fillet from the Waitrose meat counter, which the counter hand, a cheerful middle aged lady, did not seem to know was usually called tenderloin. A limit to what you can get over in a one-day course on butchery. In her further defence, the label she printed off after weighing did not say anything about tenderloin either.
Then, later on, on the second circuit, scored a couple of M&S food hall trolleys. Returned to the food hall without any bother.
The interval had seen bread batch No.733, which, I am pleased to be able to report, turned out well, with the second rise behaving itself after a couple of not-so-good batches. And some chicken soup.
About 3 pints of stock after boiling up a carcase and adding 6oz of orange lentils - rinsed in cold water a couple of times, open boiled for around 10 minutes in a portion of the stock, for a change. Some books suggest that this is necessary to get rid of the natural toxins. Brought to heat about an hour and a half from the off and left to simmer. About three quarters of an hour from the off, added some peeled red potatoes, cut into chunks. A little later, a few sticks of celery, sliced cross-wise. Just before serving, mushrooms, a small amount of chou pointu and a small amount of left over chicken. Meanwhile, onions and pork had been cooking in a little butter. Also added in just before serving.
A fine soup. Stump of the second loaf of the previous batch visible left. Rather dry, but right to be served with soup. Not quite as good the second day, but still quite serviceable.
PS: today has seen that rare event, a spot of spring cleaning in my study, occasioned by the tendency of one rug to move about underneath another, giving rise in time to unsightly ruts. In the course of this, I turned up my copy of 'Nymph Errant', last noticed at reference 2, but which I vaguely remember not being to put my hand on at that time. Turning the pages this morning, there is indeed a fair amount of material bearing on the theatre, but nothing about the origins of the word 'obscene'. Though I might add that I have had good value out of Mr. Laver, quite probably another chance find.
